This series helps each CAT aspirant to take stock of where one is and be more purposeful about ones goals in life; and facilitate an aspirant to enter the portal of ones dream business school.

A New Theory!

Today during our economics session..with Raj sir, we all were discussing the intensity of the module we had... learnings etc.. etc..

That interaction has made me write today's blog!

We all must have read in our early days "Slow and steady Wins the race"

I was wondering as does it really holds true?
Infact, my way of thinking about it is quite different..

In the story, Hare runs and was a real good at his job, was fast enough to win the race but still failed!

What do we find as the reason for his failure?

was it his speed or his not being steady?

Ofcourse... it was all about not being steady!

That's why... it fits well in today's senerio where we need to be fast enough to compete growing world but what matters a lot is to never loose our steadiness!

In our modules.. the intensity and a short time duration.. made us fast but our professors cared enough to keep every thing "संतुलित"..... STEADY!

Nothing can be lost

Nothing can be LOST!

Have we ever thought as what restricts us from succeeding? Do failures happen due to our faulty planning?...or due to poor execution?... due to negative externalities?... or something else!

Dear friends... There is nothing called failure in this world!...

If we stop attaching ourselves with results... we will never ever feel failed or demotivated!

Infact.. whenever we think of results or give priority to them, they actually makes us so conscious that our overall efficiency is affected badly which thus leads to all which we actually do not expect in our lives! So the Best we can do to our lives is "To put our efforts and just move ahead...! Results just follow"

Most importantly, we really need to think that what is that which can change our results or can shape them? Reality is ... Results are never in our hands, we can only WORK! WORK! and WORK!

So, why worry about something which is not in hands... Lets bother for the one which is in our control!

Power!

There is a little bubble coming from the bottom of a lake; we do not see it coming all the time, we see it only when it bursts on the surface; so, we can perceive thoughts only after they develop a great deal ,or after they become actions. We constantly complain that we have no control over our actions, over our thoughts!
But how can we have it?
If we can get control over the fine movements, if we can get hold of thought at the root, before it has become thought, before it has become action, then it would be possible for us to control the whole. Now, if there is a method by which we can analyse, investigate, understand and finally grapple with those finer powers, the finer causes, then alone is it possible to have control over owrselves, and the man who has control over his own mind assuredly will have control over every other mind.
That is why purity and morality have been always the object of religion; a pure, moral man has control of himself.
And all minds are same, different parts of one mind....!
He who knows one lump of clay has known all the clay in the universe.
He who knows and controls his own mind, knows the secret of every mind and has the power over every mind.

Aap Batao!

All of You must be wondering as Where was I for all these days... No blogging... ?????

So , Dear All am Back!

Let me please share what all I learnt in the past entire month!

My entire learning revolved around ...."U tell me........Aap Batao?"

You see, these are two words but have a great value ... I hope my entire batch realises it well.

Actually in the past one month we had our fourth Module for marketing and Economics...  I understood a new definition of a teacher... My professors were more of facilitator than Simply Faculty... they were more friends than simply lecturers... The best part which actually somewhere initially troubled were the above two words... but there after as module proceeded and took off... I realised the essence behind them!... u see, every time during any session when we asked question answer was same... AAP Batao!

It literally led us scratch our heads and surprisingly.... we answered our own questions!!!... This conduct actually enhanced thought processing!

well... The module ended today and we have our exams tomorrow...! You urself can easily understand the level of preparation they made us do that... Aaj exam se ek din pahle jab sab padh rahe hote hai ... am blogging... kyo?.............. AAP BATAO?

Realistic Approach!

Dear all,

Am really amazed by the approach and teaching style of Shoam...his Energy... Am bound to say it specially after the two sessions he had toady. You see, we all have always read that fine, you should be careful about being influenced by past experiances and so on....lot many things.. I really used to feel that.. hey, am not the one who would face such factors to influence me... But the way shom explained it PRACTICALLY as how unknowingly we get influenced by our past experiences was really amazing... its just one example there are lot many other things.

I must say after being here I really feel that whatever i had heard from my seniors is the basic reality that IWSB is the place where u experience the CHANGE... which u really cannot so easily express in words!

Earlier, blogging for me was created to entertain the real time wasters of the Universe because I was( or maybe I still am) seeking my own mirror image in everything. Real sense of learning!

Idea of all education, all training can never be memorising facts and passing exams. Educating in true sense means "Man- Making"..the end aim of all training has to be to make the man grow being one who influences, who throws his magic,...has dynamo of power, and when that man is ready, he can do anything and everything he likes;this personality put upon anything will make it work.

And Dear friends am really glad to say that just in past 20 days... it has all been about such education system only... which has added a lot to my personality.

The kind of devotion, i see here in professors....Their thought process... case analysis... creating real life situatons....all reflect as how deep can a person be involved in his work... The energy level of professors... really inspires me.. as when they can put in 100%... why can't we?

I must say guys... we are all lucky indeed!

I won't say Thanks ...Its My Family...!

CL Olympics mein, IWSB ke bacche, jo ek special attraction the, almost har game mein apni dhajiyanudwa kar aa gaye, aur finally is baat se santust ho gaye, ki participaion is more important.(leaving behind cricket and 100 m)

ADiti is poore hafte, as usual bachon ki tarah poore hostel mein chiikhti chillati rahi, koi class attend nahi ki, bas ghar ghar khela. (aap jante hi honge kiske saath).

Sahil abhi tak Srijan ki khatam hone ki baat ko nahi pacha paye hain aur 2 hafte se lapata hain. aaj hi pata laga hai ki sahil ki prajati ka ek jaan chandigarh mein dikha hai. (fingers crossed, woh sahil na ho.)

Aaj ki taazaa khabar ke anusar, Mansi ne humare priye Varun Shukla urf Commissioner ke moonh pe ek zordar tamacha laga. Akhri report milne tak Varun zinda paaye gaye the.

IWSB mein pehli Holi raat ke samay hi shuru ho gayee. Us raat ki celebrations ke mukhya kirdaar rahe The Kacha Jalao Boys, namely Abhilash (yes, Abhilash), Arif, Asad, Prateek, Puia, Vivek, aur Samrat (yes, all the names are correct), jinhone, aadhi rat, apne branded kache (Tommy, UCB, Jockey, Hanes) jala kar IsWB mein Holi ki pratha ka shubh arambh kiya. 

Holi ke din, 80000 ltr Beer pine ke baad Samrat bilkul hosh mein the aur Joydeep bina daroo piye bhi talli tha.

Because of some personal problems between Puia and Sourab, Pui has shifted the position of his bed. (Please pray for the two)

Aaj Jab Mr. Sanjeev Bikhchandani apna hand impression clay pe de rahe the, to unhone itna zor lagaya ki neeche pada table toot gaya.(we had to shift to another table)

 

Important Nws: The most awaited interview of the season, Gaja capital, Educomp, Vishal Mega Mart and Bonanza Portfolio was a big big disaster.

Mr. Iman ad Mr. Vikas ne hum 9 logon ki itni pyaar se maari ki hum bayaan nahi kar sakte. Mere interview mein unhone ek teer se do nishane saadhe, mere Papa ke bare mein bhi saari information leli. Sahil ne stand le liya aur kaha ki I don't know anything and that is why i want to join your company so that i can learn things during my summers. Humare apne Sourabh apni Tie ki ad karne gaye the aur Imran se pooch baithe ki meri Tie kaise hai. HOwever, yeh interbiew Hotel Raddison mein hua, jahan hum sab ne do baar Coffee pee aur cookies ka anand uthaya.

Cultural Eve-Srijan @ IWSB on 4th March

On 4th March 2009 we had our  first cultural eve Srijan @ IWSB.It was a get together for students, faculty ans staff of IWSB family.Venue was our best  hangout place KRC which is a so called library for all of us.We had pariticipants from faculty and students. The show was hosted by horrible Surya and Sweet Prachi.They were funny and quite hinglish.I enjoyed their show from behind the camera as I was the videographer for the eve...

The eve started with prayer by Aditi, Arif and Meera and then with sweet ,lovely and live music of Sitar by Arup Gopal, friend of Shom. He was marvellous... had great time capturing him on video...

It went on for more than 50 mins. Then we played MIME game .It was betweeen faculty and Students. Though they won we had great fun. Next the show continued with dance of Aditi and Mansi, then poem reciting by Shatanu Ganguly, our beloved librarian and mentor. I will try to get a copy of his poem and soon update here. We also had poem by Anuj and Kapil towards the end of the show which I will be ulpoading here soon. They did a great job to explain the Life @ IWSB in their poetic way. Everybody applauded for them

The show continued with song by Vipash,another song by Riaz Khan, Poem by Rai Mahimapat Ray though he was absent, the poem by Rai was recited by Abhilash.The the main attraction of the show Sourabh's mimicry act on some students . Everybody were on their feat to just simply beat up Saurabh. Then a small Play by Bhaskar, Sameer , Taranbit a.k.a Tazz and etc on the theme based on Lagaan. But this time britishers paying lagaan and playing kabaddi. Tunda aka Debashish was hightlight of the play as he got Elizabeth aka Prachi at the end of play with the defeat of Britishers in Kabaddi match .

Again after the play there were some group songs from Arif and Vivek then by another group of Vipash ,Tazz and Arif.

Hey extremely sorry to forget the lovely and two man standing comedy act by Tazz and apna Raahul . They played a cop and T.V host . Kauffnak tha unka comedy!!

Ended the eve with a small appreciation from Shom and then we all hit the dance floor with crazy numbers from delhi 6 and kajra re ....

At the end not to forget the food ..oh man....Loved it and then dispersed with lovely memories for lifetime.

Aaj outlook ke results aane k baad devarshi bahut nakhush hain.. unka kehna hai ki unke select na hone ka karan hai unki shaadi hai ... interview lene wali ladki uspe itni fida thi magar jab use yeh maloom pada ki dev married hai, uska dil toot gaya aur usne dev ko select na karne ki kasam kha li....

Aaj shaam se prateek bahut khush hai. usne Tuesday hone ke bawajood apni daadi shave karli... (many of u must knw the reason of this sudden happiness)

Varun Shukla, jo pichhle hafte Tree bane the, aur usse pichle hafte Reindeer, is weekend pe confsed hain ki kya bane..(for those who know about this, please give him sugestions)

Sahil aur Surya is samay ek doosre ki jhand kar rahe hain.... (no, they are not drunk, just having fun other wise)

Samir Mantrao aaj match dekh ke itna thak gaya ki woh dopehar 2 baje se 7.15 tak so raha hai....(and no, he was not playin for india, he was just watching it on T.V.)

Sahil ko aaj achanak jhatka laga jab use pata chala ki Jivox (Bangalore based company) jiske interview aaj the, kewal ek hi student ko recruit karegi.

Kal hone wale varshik cultural samaroh ki tayarian jor shor se hostel me chal rahi hain.......show ka arambh sitar ki madhur dhwani se hoga... aur end Shom ke thapedon ki dhwani se...(ofcourse, after sme mind blowing performances by all of us.)

abhi tak iss hafte kisi ne padhai nahi ki hai... yeh hafta poore harsh aur ulaas kesaath bitaya ja raha hai...(pichhle hafte ki tarah)

Abhilash ka ek bacha, aditi, jo kal kho gaee thi, aaj wapis aa gayee hai.. aur abhilash ka room ek baar fir bachon ki hasi se bhar gaya hai.

yahaan arif ke room mein, anish arif ko gandi gandi galiyaan de raha hai, arif bebass hai aur kuch nahi kar pa raha.....bechara news paper padh raha hai.... sourabh ko tension ho gayee hai ki uske room se do fruit and nuts chocolate chori ho gayee hain... saala jhoot bol raha hai, ek i chori hui hai....maine  aur anish ne ki hai, arif ne bhi khayee thi...

Aaj humne aicher market mein rs. 20 each mix juice piya aur uske bad jalebi khai (desi ghee).. we even have discovered a new hair cut parlor in eldeco... touch n glow.. not bad....for all those who do not not, Sub of the day now costs Rs.75... though the change tool place a long time ago.....

Olympics craze is also almost over, children are planning to leave for home on saturday itself.. arif is upset as he has been chosen a reserve in 100m sprint.... our own sagar chug alias Mr. Ghanta is as usual passing time...(u can meet him in Abhilash's room-no need for an appointment)

Vijay....has finally decided that he doesn't want to study....is watching a movie called 'some' diamond and could evev recognize hat the actor was leo di caprio - titanic fame....Jaydeep is roaming around here n there as Srijan is over, has no damn work to do, is planning to sell off college to a business tycoon he met in Shodhyatra... (fingers crossed)

IWSB E Week’09 in association with NEN Day 3 - Shodhyatra

The Shodh yatra started from our hostel in Greater Noida to Dhankaur at 8:30 in the morning. There were a few experts from NIF,Honeybee Network who joined us for the day long journey. Representatives from AID, YUVA,Sristi Gyan Kendra,Sristi also joined us. Dhankaur was the first stop for us which was around 12 Km from Greater Noida. The first meeting took place at Vidya Mandir High school where there were around 500 kids waiting for us from different schools. We had Mr. Rajbir Singh, renowned Organic Farming Scientist who spoke with the kids for some time explaining them about the benefits of organic farming and why the farmers should depend less on chemical fertilizers. The kids participated well in the meeting asking questions intermittently, sometimes leaving the Rajbir Singh totally stumped. Sonia Suryavansi, Honeybee Network Collaborator from Uttranchal explained the purpose of Shodhyatra. Mr Kamaljeet from Sristi Gyan Kendra(Collaborator of Honeybee Network,Harayana) then spoke with the children for some time before asking them if there were any ideas they had which they would like to discuss with all of us, 2 kids came forward. The first kid said that he wanted to make a machine which would clean the walls covered with algae inside the wells. He said that he had seen his father struggling to clean the walls sometimes and felt he would design a hand held motor device with a cloth on one end which would clean the walls with less effort. The other kid said that he wanted to make a rubber coated bumper in front of the car as he saw his father’s car getting scratches on it sometimes. There were 2 other competitions taking place at the same time, recipe contest and bio diversity contest. The most interesting recipe came from a student who prepared a dish out of the skin of peas. It is said that the skin has a lot of nutritional value and gets wasted sometimes while cleaning the peas, so this innovation makes use of the skin and gives nutritional value at the same time.

We then moved towards our second destination, the S.D.S Senior Secondary school at Nevada, located around 5 Km from Dhankaur. Mr. Rajbir Singh spoke with the children and the teachers for sometime before taking lunch in the school. One thing that surprised all of us was the poor awareness level of the children. When Mr. Rajbir Singh asked if they knew who Bapu was, nobody answered, but when he asked if they knew who Munna bhai was, pat came the reply Sanjay Dutt. We got good collection of herbal practices from few students. Around 250 students participated in discussion & most of them participated in the competitions.Our next stop was at Salempur where there were around 500 kids waiting for us. We saw a great innovation from the school principal, Mr. Ashok Singh Bhati, who had devised a formula to translate sentences to English with a 3 step method. He had been teaching this method to the children of his school for the last 5 years and claims that the children in his school know English better than the kids from the other schools. His opinion was that English grammar books were often confusing for children from villages to follow, so he devised this mechanical way of translating sentences to English. We were really impressed with the knowledge this man possessed. We are taking his innovation forward via NIF,DST-Govt. of India.

We then moved to our final stop at Ladhpura, around 300 students of Govt. High school were waiting with several creative art works for us. We also received several practices in the Bio-diversity contest. Then we moved for a village meeting where several farmers who had gathered at the gram pradhan’s home. Mr. Rajbir Singh spoke with the farmers on some of the problems they were facing. He explained the benefit of Organic farming & ways of doing sustainable farming in low cost. The meeting was finally over by 6 pm and from there we started our journey back to sector Pi. The whole day was quite memorable for all the students of Indus World School of Business (IWSB)as it gave a lot of insight on problems faced by the rural poor.

We visited 4 villages & 4 schools, where we touched upon 1500 students & 2000 farmers, villagers life.

We got several sponsors for this event. NIF,SRISTI, Honeybee Network provided us several posters, herbal products of innovators, booklets on best practices, magazines, pamphlets e.t.c.(a total in-kind support of around Rs.25,000). Vaidya Family from Pune has supported us with Rs.10,000.Millennium Girls & Boys Hostel provided us Lunch & Logistical support (a total in-kind support of around Rs.10,000).

IWSB and DISHA E-Cell Make an Impact at The Global Conference of E-Cell's IIT Bombay 7-8th Feb'09

It was IWSB all the way at the E-Cell Summit on the 8th Feb'09.From being regarded as one of the fastest growing E-Cell's in the country to accepting the daunting responsibilty of mentoring other growing E-Cell's in the NCR to immense appreciation of our teaching methodology, the IEL course, we were well and truly everywhere.

Testimony to our efforts being recognized is the fact that we were asked to share our experiences as panel members with representatives of other E-Cell's from across the country.

8 institutes were asked to man stalls where participants and our newly alloted Mentee's interacted with us.

Needless, to say we were amongst one of them!!

There are many more such milestones that we shall add to our already impressive repository.......till then IWSB rocks!!!

ISSUES regarding Marathon of E-Week

E -week started with marathon which was really admirable and marvellous. Though I was the last one but I was very pleased because I was able to finish it. But one thing disappointed me very much; we throw all the plastic glasses (approximately 150) which we used for water, on the road during the marathon while our theme was GO GREEN. 

Were we working on the concept of GO GREEN or it was something else????????????????????

Day 2 of E-Week-Junkyard Wars Creativity with waste and Role Play Competition "Go Green"

The second day of the Entrepreneurship Week at Indus World School of Business was a fun filled one which saw two more events occupying the day’s activities. The first was the Junkyard competition where the teams were expected to make something creative out of the waste materials they could gather. The participants used all their brains and creative minds to come up with models which were judged based on the proportion of waste materials used, creativity, feasibility to sell the product and response to questions that were raised by the judges. The keenly contested event saw the team from Hindustan Business School emerging as winners. The team came up with an excellent model of Lord Ganapati which was crafted out from glass pieces, marble chips, bamboo sticks, paper plates, disposable paper glasses etc. The team from IWSB who came up with a model of a rural village emerged second.

            The next event was the role play in which the teams were supposed to perform a 10 minute play pertaining to the ‘Go Green’ theme. Hindustan Business School made a grand double by coming first with a play to spread awareness for non-wastage of natural resources. The Role play competition also saw the host team participate by enacting a play depicting environment changes through the theme of Ramayana. The day concluded with the HBS team enlightening the audience with a Business Plan on recycling of waste materials. The next event of the E-Week hosted by IWSB will be the Shodyatra which will be on the 10^th of February 2009.         

Half Marathon and Planting of Tree Sapling as a part of E-Week 2009

The E-Week 2009 at Indus World School of Business, Greater Noida kicked off today with a marathon starting from the campus. 50 odd participants from 8 colleges around Knowledge Park took part in the event, the theme for which was ‘Go Green’. The Marathon was flagged off by Kalpana from NEN. The participants took pledge prior to the start of the marathon promising to work and excel for the development of the society. The 5 Km marathon was run in the right spirit with participants spreading awareness of ‘Go Green’ by means of placards and banners. The finishing point of the event was at the new campus of IWSB where the construction of ‘Green Campus’ of IWSB is under progress. The marathon which witnessed a lot of fun, excitement and enthusiasm saw Ashish Shulk from ITS,Greater Noida coming first, Navdeep Dalal from IWSB securing the second and Pushpendra Kumar from Skyline College bagging the third place. The winners would be felicitated with cash awards worth Rs. 15000 at the closing ceremony of E-Week at YMCA on the 12th of February 2009. A tree sapling was planted by the winners at the new campus of IWSB which marked the end of the marathon event. The next few days of E-Week at IWSB will have the following events where students from across Knowledge Park are expected to participate.
